A Day Wandering Around Gardens
Cape Town, South Africa
"This cape is the most stately thing and the fairest cape we saw in the whole circumference of the earth."
A Day Wandering Around Gardens will take you to our favorite spots in this trendy Cape Town neighborhood. Start off with coffee at Molten Toffee, a walk through The Company's Garden, lunch at Clarkes, shopping in Greenmarket Square, drinks at Yours Truly, a romantic dinner at Kloof Street House, and cocktails at Orphanage Cocktail Emporium. We hope you love this day as much as we do! ❤️
We hope you find this guide useful!
Buy us a coffeeA Day Spent in Gardens is probably one of our most favorite Days in Cape Town, and it wouldn't be complete without dinner and drinks at one of our most memorable restaurants of all time, Kloof Street House.
The definition of a hidden gem, Kloof Street House feels like you walked through the gates into The Secret Garden. We will go as far as to say it may be one of the most stunning restaurants we have ever dined at (and my family is in the restaurant business!) and the cherry on top? The food is just as beautiful and as delicious as the setting. Six months later, Brian and I still talk about the evening we spent here, down to every detail of our meal.
Whether you decide to dine outside on the perfectly eclectic veranda on a warm balmy Capetonian summer evening (as we did) or travel back into time as you walk through the doors of an old Victorian house bathed in old world charm, Kloof Street House is a dining experience offering more visual beauty and imagination than a fairytale novel.
Enjoy a bottle of South African's own Pinotage while reminiscing about your day over the Chalmar beef with smoked marrow bone butter (pst. we like to add the delectable truffle mash because who doesn't love two types of potatoes with their beef?) and the mouth-watering Bouillabaisse. And don't even think about leaving before you round out your meal with the salted caramel cheesecake and popcorn ice cream. YUM.
Ugh, can we go back already??
Pro-Tip: As if Kloof Street House wasn't the Utopia of restaurants already, they have a Sunday Jazz Brunch that can't be missed (reservations strongly recommended).

And If You're Still Not Ready to Call it Quits...
Orphanage Cocktail Emporium
Cape Town, South Africa
Loop back around to Bree Street and grab a cocktail at Orphanage Cocktail Emporium. PS. The name comes from being long time supporters of the St. Francis Children's Home. Drinking for a good cause? Yes please!

Ever wonder what its like to visit a place that ticks all the boxes? It's a magical setting filled with like minded people from all around the world, oh and add reasonably priced drinks and delicious food on top of that if for some reason you needed an extra push. Welcome to Yours Truly Cafe and Bar on Kloof Street. Brian and I probably spent every afternoon, and on most occasions several evenings at this neighborhood spot.
It's the perfect place to sit down and take a load off with a cold beer or cider or to meet up with friends and co-workers for happy hour. It's even the perfect spot to get some work done while enjoying the fresh air.
It offers something for everybody at all times of the day (and bonus points, if you are a coffee lover, they serve Deluxe!). It's pretty much the unicorn of bars in our opinion. Head upstairs to the rooftop where you can even catch a glimpse of Lion's Head Mountain. Enjoy a cold beverage and share a delicious pizza (pst. Our favorite is the Mr. Popular) with friends. We promise it won't be the last time you'll drop by. And as they say, we'll see you, "same time tomorrow."

A great place to pick up a couple souvenirs or even a few things for yourself, Greenmarket Square is a local flea market attracting merchants from all over the continent selling arts, crafts, fabrics, and beadwork. Even if you aren't in a shopping mood, sit at one of the cafes in the square and enjoy all the smiling faces of South Africa. PS. Don't forget to bargain!

Stroll Down Bree Street for Lunch at Clarke's Bar & Dining Room
Clarke's Bar & Dining Room
Cape Town, South Africa
Bree Street's sidewalks are lined with cafes and pedestrians. A favorite spot is Clarke's where the atmosphere is fun, the food is delicious, and the people are great. Be prepared to wait a while on the weekends, good food comes at a price, but your tastebuds will thank you. I promise.
Pro-Tip: Order the avocado toast with house-made labneh and the grapefruit brulee with ginger sugar. I still dream about this meal!

Right in the heart of the Mother City, the Company's Garden offers a shady, green refuge for locals and tourist to wander and day dream. A historical treasure in and of itself, it is also home to the Iziko South African museum. Things to look out for: South Africa's oldest cultivated pear tree and a rose garden built in 1929. There is also a restaurant offering light meals and great tea. Things to watch out for? The giant squirrels! They are ruthless!
