We are squeezing in this historical experience on our Day Along the Waterfront Guide as an optional excursion. As we didn't have time to explore Robben Island, most famous for where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for eighteen years, but we still felt it was important to give travelers the option of checking it out as many say its a must do while visiting Cape Town.

To be frank, there are mixed reviews online, but everyone we spoke to while in Cape Town loved the experience. Do book your tickets in advance, and if you want to stick with the itinerary in this Day Along the Waterfront, make sure you book the 9:00am ferry. You can purchase your tickets online here or stop by the terminal a couple days before to ensure they aren't sold out.

Just as a heads up, we've been told that the tour feels a little rushed and also over crowded. We just want to make sure your expectations are set!

PS. Here is a great blog post on the Robben Isand experience: http://www.nomadicnotes.com/robben-island-apartheid-prison-south-africa/

PPS. If you don't make the ferry ride over, do check out the multi-level glass museum.
