The Blue City from Mehrangarh Fort
Jodhpur is known as the Blue City. Now if you are like me and expected to show up to Smurf Village, get that idea out of your head because its nothing like that! There is a part of the city that is blue, and you can see it from the top of, you guessed it, the fort!

Brian and I really enjoyed Jodhpur. It’s a small city in Rajasthan, but there was something special about it. All the restaurants have rooftops with breathtaking views of the majestic fort and clock tower. There were tons of street food options we felt safe eating, including the famous Omelette Shop (although our omelette most definitely resembled a sandwich, so I'm not sure where the name comes from) and Shahi Samosa. We had our first taste of Rajasthani curry on the rooftop of The Curry's with incredible views of the city.

And who can forget one of the best dining experiences of our lives and our introduction to traditional thali: Gypsy! Brian and I were like kids in a candy shop watching as they constantly refilled our tiny tin bowls with more delicious goodness. I can't even tell you what half the stuff we ate was, but I can tell you it was insanely good. Mmmmm, my mouth is watering thinking about Indian food again (we are currently in Krabi, Thailand, melting in the heat and catching up on some work).

We decided to visit the fort which functions as a current day museum and offers great landscape shots of the blue city.

We also stumbled into Jaswant Thada, a porcelain, and beautifully symmetrical cenotaph built in 1899.

Umaid Bhawan Palace
We also drove up to Umaid Bhawan Palace, one of the world's largest private residences and also a five star hotel. It's pretty to look at, and they have a collection of vintage cars if you are into that, but if you don't have the time, it's definitely safe to skip.

Jodhpur was the first city we were able to spend two nights in which was much needed after packing up and moving every single day for the last four nights. We met so many people on similar trips and considered extending our stay but decided to add Pushkar to our itinerary instead after speaking with other travelers. So after two great nights walking the streets of the Blue City, we headed out to our next and favorite destination of Rajasthan: Udaipur, the City of Lakes!
